Curcumin is a polyphenolic yellow pigment isolated
from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa (turmeric)
Curcumin is extracted from the dried root of the rhizome Curcuma Longa.
Curcumin is used as a food additive colour.
Chemical constituents : The main active chemical complex compound in turmeric is curcuminoids.
Therapeutic uses: Curcuma possess anti inflammatory, antirheumatic, antiallergic, antibacterial, antioxidant and helps to prevent various cardio-vascular, viral and other chronic diseases. It is used in the form of lotion on external wounds and joints. It is also used as a colouring agent in food preparations.
Standardisation : Curcummin is purified to 95%
The curcuminoids are polyphenols and are responsible for the yellow color of turmeric.
Curcumin can exist in at least two tautomeric forms, keto and enol. The enol form is more energetically stable in the solid phase and in solution.
